Dr. Xiao Wang was born in China and began her musical studies at age four and entered the Central Conservatory of Music in China at the age of eleven. In 2006, after graduating from the high school attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, she was admitted to the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music to receive her undergraduate and master degrees. In 2018, she earned her doctoral degree from the University of North Texas.


Dr. Xiao Wang has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes in China and during her studies in the United States. In 2002, she earned the 3rd prize in the 65th Steinway Piano Competition in China. In the summer of 2005, she was one of six finalists at the Seventh Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition. During her first three years at UC-CCM, Xiao Wang twice won the McElroy Competition of $2500 and the Cliburn Competition of $5000 in the Undergraduate Scholarship Competitions and was an alternate winner in the CCM concerto competition. In the summer of 2009, she won the Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition at the Brevard Music Center Festival performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and also won 2nd prize in the Solo Piano Competition of the Brevard Music Center Festival. Recently, she won the University of North Texas Concerto Competition and performed Ravel Piano Concerto for the Left Hand with the UNT Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, she won 2nd Prize (Virtuoso prize) in the 13th Concorso Internazionale di Esecuzione Musicale (13th International Music Competition) held in Padova, Italy.  She also won the Premio Citta’ di Padova (City of Padova) Prize, which included 1st Prize in the Pianoforte Categoria E (ages 23-40) and 4th Prize in the Finale “Premio Citta’ di Padova” Riservata ai Vincitori del Primo Premio Categoria Superiore E.


Dr. Xiao Wang has performed in Australia as a representative of Chinese young pianists and in 2006; she attended and performed at International Piano Week of Belgium. She has also appeared in performances in the Wuhan Conservatory of Music, the Capital Teachers University in China, University of Michigan, Prague Piano Festival, Young Harris College and Lewisville Chamber Music Series. In 2015, she was invited by Press Agimus Padova to give a concert tour in Venice, Padua and Abano Terme.


After her doctoral program, Dr. Xiao Wang remains active in performing, collaborating and teaching in the DFW area. She currently resides in Frisco, Texas, with her husband Jeff.
